At the CSRC weekly meeting on June 16, Jon Swartstrom of Enagic gave a talk about the benefits of drinking water that has been turned from acidic to alkaline (high pH).
 
There are many stories of people losing weight, getting rid of rheumatism, tumours disappearing and pain reduced or eliminated. The concept is that this water puts the body back into balance – the water improves the transmission of oxygen to the cells. If body is acidic it leaches calcium from our bones. Active hydrogen and anti-oxidants are found in waters of this type.   The product has received approval in Japan and is certified for use in their hospitals. One out of 15 homes in Japan have one of these machines and Bill Gates has several in his home.

At the other end of the pH scale, a strong acidic water (low pH) kills bacteria and gets rid of stains etc. If you wash your fruits and veggies in this water they last 3-4 times longer. The systems his company produces can produce both type of water.

In a colorful demonstration, he compared this ‘Kangen water’ with all our normal bottled water products, Coke, GatorAid, Perrier, Sprite etc.  They typically read from 280 to 370 on the meter – quite acidic and oxidizing.  His water was - 600 on the same scale (very alkaline or anti-oxidant).  It is ten times better an anti-oxoidant than green tea.  Some even say it slows or stops the aging process or can even reverse it.    

The cost for their most popular model of system to produce this water is about $4,800 dollars US, and the system can produce over two hundred gallons per day if needed. There are also lower-cost models with fewer options and capacity.
