Poco a Poco is excited to annoiunce the inauguration of their new kitchen and dining area, where we feed 160 children, five days a week (in three sittings) at our brand-new Community Center in San Pedro Itzicán. We will depart at 11:30 am from Black Coffee Back Parking lot (opposite Walmart) We will try to organize carpooling for the journey. Let us know if you can drive or need a ride, and contact Kari at 3330820-4927 or pocoapocosanpedro@gmail.com We'll embark on a scenic drive, estimated to be around an hour, possibly stopping in Chapala to pick up fellow attendees. Upon arrival in San Pedro, we'll spend about an hour or so seeing the children enjoying their meal and admiring the new facility. We aim to finish by 2:30 pm, with a return to Ajijic around 3:30 pm, depending on traffic.  If you're unable to drive but eager to join, meet us behind Black Coffee at 11:30 am, but let Kari know in advance please. Architect Ignacio Germán Osuna Eskenazi and the Universidad Tec de Monterrey students for designing the community center with the local people and encouraging kids to want to become architects. The Outreach Program of  St Andrew's Anglican Church for funding towards the kitchen and bathrooms. San Diego Downtown Rotary Breakfast Club for their support of the building. And to all of you who helped raise money to fund this project, especially Harvey and Laura, for their matching pledge fund raiser last year. Get to meet some of these children who come on a regular basis to eat a hot and nutritious meal! Joshua Greene, will speak about the water committee, especially the empowering of the women as well as what the children have learned from this and how this project will help with the sustainability of the sanitation project.

Dr. Kelly Bennett began his career as a rocket scientist. Over the past 55 years, he has helped individuals and businesses around the world flourish by applying clinical, developmental, and neuro-psychology, brainwave optimization, meditation, and prayer as a psychologist and professor. While professionally credentialed, he has lived and practiced in the United States, Australia, South-east Asia, and Ecuador. He now resides in Ajijic.

Please join us on Sunday, August 4th for a trip to Sahuayo, Michoacan.

This will be the first of many cultural and fun activities this Rotary year.

The town of Sahuayo is putting on its annual event to celebrate their patron saint. There will be a parade in which we will watch amazing costumes and masks, many of them floral, as they celebrate this holiday. Oscar will provide snacks and drinks and arrange dinner for us at a nearby restaurant.

We will have time after the parade to walk around the village, to shop, or to sit and people watch... it will be your choice.

Oscar will rent an adequate number of Vans to take us on the 1.45 hr trip and back/

Amanda has been living Lakeside for 2 and a half years and is involved with the theatre since the week she arrived. Last season she took on the role of volunteer coordinator and this year she also joined the board of directors

Amanda will talk about the upcoming season of Lakeside Little Theatre. She will also offer volunteer opportunities and special events we host. This is the 60th season of the oldest english speaking theatre in Mexico

Dr. Jeanette Monosoff, Ajijic Club Rotarian, will speak to us about her work in India for a number of years, with village women to teach sewing and develop a Coop for marketing their products.  

Michael Reason has been widely praised for his imaginative programming and dynamic presentations. His versatility as aconductor, arranger and communicator has garnered critical acclaim both at home and abroad.

Originally from England, where he studied conducting with Maurice Miles at the Royal Academy of Music, piano with Georgina Zellan Smith and earned a B. Mus. Ed. from Kingston University, Michael has had a highly successful career as an enterprising and entrepreneurial conductor.

After a decade of working in professional music theatre in England Michael was appointed Music Director of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, B.C. in the early 1990’s which was followed by a 3-year tenure as Artistic Director of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra. In 1997 he was appointed Principal Pops Conductor with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and in March 2001 he was appointed the orchestra’s Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, a position he held until June 2006. 

He was invited to form the Lake Chapala Orchestra in 2018 and remains it’s artistic director to the present day.  https://lakechapalaorch.com/members

Alvaro Becerra Sanchez, who is an Attorney at law will address our members and guests about Immigration.

Alvaro graduated from law school of University of Guadalajara, SRE branch Jalisco, naturalization from 2000-2006, independent legal practice from 2006 till today, masters of human rights and peace ITESO, Jesuit University of Guadalajara

Nutritionist Rosario Bedoya will be speaking about stem cells and other health services.

There is no schedule meeting today. Instead there is PICA Amoeba testing in San Pedro. (Whatever that means)

Our primary speaker will be Dra. Ema Sotelo. Dra Ema is a kidney donor and will talk about her experience. I will bring Filipe Vega Ramos who was the first transplant patient under our Rotary “Jalisco Kidney Transplant Program”. His transplant was July 9, 2024. Accompanying him will be Luis Eduardo Baltazar Morales. Luis received his kidney transplant February 19 , 2019 from his father, Ramon. Luis, along with Mike Jones, is in contact with all of our past and future potential transplant candidates.
